The paper considers the gradual changing process of the educational term system in the Russian language, which has been influenced by a number of extralinguistic factors. There are three periods that are marked by significant changes in the conceptual and terminological system of Russian pedagogy and education. Firstly, the Soviet period and its influences on the Russian educational term system are discussed. This stage can be characterized by the strict state and party regulation of teachers’ education and training, the learning process and its content, as well as the close interdisciplinary connection between pedagogy and other sciences. Secondly, the post-Soviet period of a large-scale reform of the Russian education system is observed. The changes include the adoption of several legal acts to define the Russian educational system and some of the federal education standards. Another important process of the period is the entry of Russia into the Bologna process and the subsequent tendency towards the unification and harmonization of the Russian and European education term systems. The third stage refers to the present and the ongoing changes in society that directly affect the language. Due to globalization and digitalization there is a substantial increase in the number of borrowed terms in the Russian education term system. Also, the Covid-19 pandemic has a growing impact on these changes. Finally, the conclusions are drawn about the need for a deeper study of the changes and trends in the Russian education term system, as well as its systematization and harmonization.
